Venezuela Cum Parte Australi Ovae Andalusie (1670/1671) John Ogilby (1600 to 1676) One of the more colorful figures associated with cartography, Ogilby started life as a dancing master and finished as the King's Cosmographer and Geographic Printer. In 1675 Ogilby published the first really accurate set of road maps, measuring the distances using a 'Wheel Dimensurator' or 'waywiser.' His use of the statute mile of 1760 yards helped to establish it as a standard throughout England. ![]() Map: 14 5/8" x 11 1/2" Frame: 22 3/8" x 19 3/4" Order #: 3462 VENEZUELA $625.00 |
