Artists Of Note: Prairie Print Makers
Regional Realism
The Kansas-based Prairie Print Makers group formed on December 28, 1930, in the Lindsborg, Kansas, studio of Swedish-born Birger Sandzen. Instead of portraying the mythical Midwest, the Prairie Print Makers show us an un-nostalgic view of everyday life.
The group eventually had more than 100 members throughout North America. Many members were professional graphic artists, such as Margaret Whittemore, who worked as a drafter for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad.
The Prairie Print Makers' stated mission was "to further the interest of both artists and laymen in printmaking and collecting."
