Details
Six volumes, large quarto. Each volume has been skillfully bound in 3/4, decoratively stamped, five-band brown leather with handsomely marbled boards and gilt-stamped red leather title label at the spine.
Because of the era in which Schoolcraft researched and published his history, it is considered to be the most complete record of the North American aboriginal tribes. It includes tribal histories, folklore, art, architecture, etc.
Volume One is inscribed by George Moneypenny, Commissioner of Indian Affairs at the time of publication, to Charles Mason, Commissioner of Patents:
Hon Chas. Mason,
Com[missioner] Patents
with respect of Geo Moneypenny
